Well, there really hasn't been a post here that explains what Destiny is all about, so here goes:
An Ancient artifact is discovered in a Goa'uld chamber in Egypt in 2010, which tells of plans of plans that the Ancients had to leave earth nearly 10,000 years ago for the distant Caelum galaxy, after having left Atlantis. These Ancients did not plan to leave earth by Stargate, but by ship.
With this infomation, the newly formed ISGC approves a plan to use the XC-314, a ship on which construction has only begun, to search out this last strand of Ancients. We now jump to the year 2015 (four years after season 1 of Stargate: Horizon), and the XC-314, christened Destiny has finished construction, and is ready for launch. It is the largest, most advanced vessel ever constructed by earth, and is meant to perform on long range, long term exploration, which is exactly what its first mission will be.
The Destiny launches, and after a nine week journey in hyperspace, the ship and her 500+ crew arrive at the edge of the Caelum galaxy. Here they begin their explorations, and discover a powerful new enemy, bent on the destruction of humanity, as well as valuable allies and technology.
Expect to see plenty of battle, on both land and in space, a new and intriguing backstory to the Ancients, a fair share of character developments, and two great two-parters, as well as the fantastic pilot.

Has it been decided why this batch of Ancients fled Earth?
given that there was no threat from the Wraith or any other enemy, and that their curiosity about other galaxies might have been tempered by a century of war.

The Ancients were a people without a home, the ones who left earth left because they had grown to attached to their old lives of technology and advancment to settle down on earth and live out their days. This combined with their natural desire to explore resulted in them leaving.

They do?
As for the allies they meet, we'll obviously see some in the pilot, like in any SG pilot, and we'll also discover some very powerful allies near the end of the season, who will play a large roll in season 2, although they will be very different from the allies we meet in the s1 finale, if that makes any sense.

Just that school just started up, and I'm getting back into the swing of things. Also, I'm working on clearing out a nasty little virus that I picked up along the way somewhere. I've got it pretty much cleaned out, though.
